Chicago Pride Parade 2010 a huge success

Sunday, 27 Jun 2010

Pride Parade Chicago 2010 is being held today, June 27th.

This is the 41st year for the annual event, which gives participants the opportunity to raise awareness of the gay and lesbian community, show their support for gay rights, express pride in who they are, and evince tolerance for their gay and lesbian neighbors.

The parade caps off a gala weekend of Gay Pride festivities in the Windy City. The theme of this year’s parade is “One Heart, One World, One Pride.” The parade begins at 12 noon on Sunday, and begins on Halsted and Belmont Avenue, following Halsted to its end at Grace Street, then turning on Broadway, traveling to Diversey and eastward through Lincoln Park. The parade is expected to feature over 250 floats and draw up to 400,000 visitors to the Chicago area. Spectators are advised to come early to obtain a good vantage spot, and to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, the day is liable to be sweltering. People are being asked to keep the area neat by making proper use of available waste receptacles. Spectators should note that alcohol consumption and the use of high powered water guns are all prohibited along the parade route. Portable toilets will be made available at regular intervals along the route and barricades will be in use to keep crowds from spilling over onto the parade route.
