Caffeine can enhance athletic performance

Wednesday, 30 Jun 2010

According to researchers at the Coventry University’s Department of Biomolecular and Sports Science, caffeine studies have shown that using caffeine can increase muscle endurance and help people raise their energy levels from everyday normal activities to improving performance of athletic competitions. Caffeine is not considered a dangerous substance, which keeps it off the list of the World Anti-doping Agency’s banned substances.

Scientist are well aware of the effects of caffeine on the central nervous system causing increased energy among athletics, which can make their performance enhanced, but now they have reason to believe it also affects the blood plasma causing skeletal muscle receptors to produce enhanced force. According to the lead researcher at Coventry University, he believes that the use of caffeine could improve the athletics performance, making it more possible to win the gold.

The caffeine study was conducted on mice with testing done on their lower leg parts, studying their endurance and power while under sub-maximal and maximal activities. Studies concluded that with high doses of caffeine the enhanced power in the mice was up by 6 percent during both levels of activities. Researchers believe that a similar effect in humans is likely.

The researcher also stated that caffeine concentrations can only reach a certain maximum level in human blood plasma although some people who use high amounts of caffeine have been noted to have concentration levels reach almost to the maximum level. Very high dosages of caffeine would have to be used, most likely in the forms of tablets, concentrated liquid or powders to improve athletic performance. caffeine-boost-sports-performance
