UK health minister rejects Jamie Oliver’s approach to health

Wednesday, 30 Jun 2010

The new UK health minister has dismissed chef Jamie Oliver’s outlook on improvements to school lunches and tackling childhood obesity.

The ministers main issue is that he feels that the outlook will not result in more children eating school lunches. He feels that providing healthy options will only decrease the amount of children eating lunches provided by school systems.

Oliver feels that the comments from Andrew Lansley show a lack of respect for the hardworking ladies that work in the lunchrooms in the schools of the British education system.

Jamie Oliver has been fighting the battle to improve the quality of school lunches in his native Great Britain since 2004. It has only been recently that he has brought the battle stateside. His plan is to start in rural area’s where the obesity levels seem to be highest such as West Virginia.

In 2003, Oliver was presented with the prestigious Order of the British Empire award by Queen Elizabeth. An advocate for healthy and organic foods, he has been named one of the most influential people in Great Britain.

Oliver is also famous for his cooking shows that appear in over forty countries to date. The Naked Chef was his first show that premiered in the UK in 1998. He followed that up with Jamies Kitchen and Jamies Kitchen Australia. His more recent shows have been on Food Network in the states. Oddly enough, there is even a video game with his personal narration that premiered in 2008 called What’s Cooking? With Jamie Oliver. uk-health-minister-rejects-jamie-oliver-school-lunch-health
