Breast Cancer Research Announces Exciting New Findings Regarding Fish Oils
Recent preliminary studies may bring hope to those women who are concerned about developing breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. Currently taken by many to help reduce their risk of heart disease, fish oils may also be accredited with reducing a woman’s risk for the most common form of breast cancer.
These findings are bound to bring more attention and devotion to research involved with this deadly disease. Breast cancer takes the lives of approximately 40,000 women each year.
The study followed 35,016 women and had them fill out a questionnaire regarding their lifestyle and diet. All of the women involved in the study had no known family history of the disease and were post menopausal. After six years of keeping track of the participants they discovered that 880 of them had indeed developed breast cancer. Women who had been regularly taking a fish oil supplement were found to have reduced their risk of breast cancer by 32 percent.
These fish oils contain Omega-3 fatty acids which may be the key to reducing your risk. The fatty acids keep inflammation in the body down which may be the main reason for the breast cancer to develop. Inflammation causes cells to divide and provides an opportunity for cancer to grow.
Although it is still unknown exactly how these fish oils are keeping the disease at bay the results are promising. It is best to get the fish oil directly from the fish itself however there are good supplements available.
