Obama Makes Bold Move to Cut the HIV Virus
President Barack Obama made a bold move on Tuesday, with new plans revealed to reduce the number of infections caused by the HIV virus by 25% over the next 5 years. Officials have outlined a plan to better educate individuals, who would be otherwise unaware of their status. The administration plans on implementing a 3 pronged plan to help curb this deadly disease. They want to lessen the number of people who get infected, reduce health problems directly related to HIV and make it easier to access proper health care treatment. It is hoped that this combination will help to significantly cut into AIDS related cases.
President Obama plans to be out in front on this crusade, calling on Americans everywhere to help with the education and training to help curb this epidemic. In a letter sent to many departments of the federal government. the President outlined his plan to decrease the number of new cases while trying to offer the best possible care for people who are currently stricken with this malady. He intends to concentrate federal monies on the areas most hard hit: gay and bisexual communities and illegal substance users. With greater education and scientific techniques, there is the feeling that the spread can be reduced significantly. Other physical methods mentioned were condoms, abstinence, HIV testing and sterile needles and syringes.
This is good news for the 1.1 million Americans who are infected. While HIV incidence is slowing, approximately 56,000 Americans are still contracting it each year.
