Michael Douglas Battling Stage 4 Throat Cancer, Remains Hopeful UPDATE
65-year-old Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas is fighting one of the toughest battles of his entire life. Tuesday night on the “Late Show with David Letterman” he revealed that he has stage 4 throat cancer and has just successfully completed his first treatment for the disease.
Douglas will undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatments for about eight weeks. On Wednesday Douglas was quoted as saying to People magazine that he would beat this cancer. He disclosed to Letterman that he knew something just wasn’t right because he had been experiencing a sore throat for quite awhile before being diagnosed with cancer just three weeks ago. He had gone through many tests for weeks which revealed nothing, but when the doctors finally did perform a biopsy they found the stage 4 tumor.
Douglas is well known for his heavy drinking and smoking habits, which can cause cancer. An attending physician in the department of radiation and oncology Dr. Lawrence Tena, said that almost all throat and neck cancers occur from smoking and drinking. The National Cancer Institute website states that in 2010 in the United States alone more than 25,000 new cases were reported and there were almost 6,000 deaths. Doctors treating Douglas say he is expected to make a full recovery.

I am jewish and I will make a special prayer for him during the prayer for the sick every week. I hope he will make it. He is a great man. He is an amazing man. If I ever met him in the street I have so much to tell him. I hope he will leave like his father to see his children…They need him.
it was only some few weeks ago, my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. We were devistated by the thought.Since then he has been taking radiation treatments 5 days a week but after each one, it seems to make him sicker and sicker.I have to ask myself,are the treatments working or making him worse?If theres anyone that can relate to my situation,leave comments please to help me better understand this, I thank you so much.
