HIV Over a Million Years Old
New research leads scientists to believe that a form of HIV/AIDS may have been around for a million years or at least thirty-two-thousand.
These results come after studying simians which are believed to have been geographically isolated from the African mainland for the past ten-thousand years.
This new research indicates that HIV mutates much slower than was previously believed.
Some, who hoped HIV would quickly change into a non-lethal form, are finding these new reports disheartening.
Others find encouragement in the belief that HIV will not change before we find a cure for the current strain.
Aside from finding a cure, scientists are also anxious to discover what would change AIDS from a virus that the monkeys could withstand, to the deadly killer it is today.
