Google Doodle Celebrates Google’s 12 Birthday
Happy 12th Birthday To Google–One of the Most Famous Shots In History Heard Round The World
In April of 1775 a shot was heard around the world as America began seeking independence from the ‘Mother Country’.
Two hundred and twenty three years later a different kind of shot was fired that not only was heard around the world but changed our world forever—a shot known as ‘Google’.
Today September 27th 2010 as the world celebrates the 12th birthday of a once little-known search engine it’s time not just to celebrate but to reflect on this milestone in America’s history.
That famous shot in 1775 was fired by 2 men and it only took 2 men to fire the next world-famous shot 223 years later.
On September 27th 1998 a company called Google was formed by 2 college kids Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
While that first shot was fired intentionally, ironically the second shot was somewhat of an accident. Two things many people don’t know is first these two guys were merely doing a ‘research project’ which was a college curriculum requirement and secondly the spelling of one of the most famous domain names in history was the result of a spelling error! To say ‘Google hit the ground running’ is putting it mildly because what has been accomplished in just 12 years in mind-boggling. By 2002 internet surfing was possible in 10 languages in addition to English. Other important accomplishments we all depend on every day are Google News launched in 2002 and Google Mail in 2004. For individual investors Google trading as ‘GOOG’ appeared on NASDAQ at $85 a share on August 24th 2005.
There are many people today who wish they had just closed their eyes and taken what was considered a risky move at that time to purchase a few shares since currently shares of Google are going for $533.01 per share.
