Sony Releases PS3 Update 3.56

Thursday, 27 Jan 2011

Users of Sony’s popular PlayStation 3 console will have the opportunity to download update 3.56 today. It is a required download for those who attempt to access the PlayStation network and attempts to fix a “security” problem that allows PS3 users to install their own firmware.

Users who are currently using homebrew firmware will find it disabled after the security patch is installed, but enterprising console gamers are already hard at work trying to figure out a way around this latest fix. Many of these developers see this update as simply the latest round of a cat-and-mouse attempt by Sony to curtail their efforts and expect this update to be hacked.
