Can the Latest PS3 Update 3.56 Solve Sony’s Woes?

Friday, 28 Jan 2011

By now, the fact that Sony’s flagship console (The PS3) has been compromised by the publication of its root-key by the hacker known as GeoHot is old news. Since the hacked root-key was released Sony has been scrambling to pick themselves back up after this unfortunate blow.

Thus comes the release of the latest update for the system (Update 3.56). Released just yesterday, January 27th, 2011, it was Sony’s hope that the update would be a cure all to the problem. It is much to Sony’s chagrin that reports of hackers by-passing the update in order to release more root-keys began only hours after the update was released.

As of now, Sony’s only solace comes in the form of a bit of justice. Sony has won a temporary restraining order against George (GeoHot) Hotz, preventing him from partaking in any activities involving the publishing of newly discovered root-keys.

All of this comes on the heals of what should be a joyous time for Sony, as just yesterday, they released to the public their latest handheld system which is tentatively known as the NGP (Next Gen Portable).
