It is a mystery of who St. Valentine really is, or if there was more than one. Many believe he was a priest who was persecuted, beaten with club and beheaded in an attempt to have him denounce his faith during the third century.
While awaiting execution, he penned a note to jailer’s daughter who sight he restored while incarcerated and signed it “from your Valentine”. Thus, the Patron of Love and Marriage created the first Valentine Card.
In 2011, there will be over one billion valentines day cards exchanged between lovers, friends and classmates, making it one of the most popular holidays worldwide.
