AOL launches new exclusive daily magazine for the iPad
AOL is showing its resilience and desire to remain a significant player in the digital media industry with a new exclusive daily magazine. Editions – “The Magazine That Reads You” is an application for the Apple iPad tablet computer.
David Temkin, AOL’s mobile director, described Editions as a news magazine that the reader can experience in 20 minutes over a cup of morning coffee. According to a press release by AOL, Editions is unique in the sense that it applies different algorithms in order to create a customized reading experience.
When Editions is opened for the first time, the reader is prompted to browse and choose from 15 different content categories. The range of content is diverse: from national headlines to local news, and from music to financial market updates. After the first read, Editions will analyze the reader’s actions to deliver more interesting content the next day.
The look of Editions is similar to that of a glossy magazine. A number of articles complete with graphics and photos appear on each page. Editions is created each morning, meaning that news junkies must wait until the next day to get their fix (at least for now).
AOL Editions is available as a free iPad download from the App Store.
